This report summarises the surveillance information for STIs in 2014 and examines trends over time. The following STIs are reported: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, genital herpes, genital warts, infectious syphilis, non-specific urethritis (NSU), chancroid, granuloma inguinale (GI) and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV).

The Ministry of Health commissioned KPMG, supported by the University of Otago, to undertake a time limited Value for Money (VfM) review of those Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services of New Zealand that are funded, or part funded by the Ministry and DHBs.

This guide is a revision of Sexuality Education: A guide for principles, boards of trustees, and teachers (2002). The guide will assist boards of trustees, principles and teachers in all New Zealand state and state-intergrated schools to comply with the requirements of the Education Act 1989 (as ammended in 2001) to consult with the school community on the way in which the health currirulum should be implemented.

Youth’12 was the third Youth2000 national survey of the health and wellbeing of secondary school students in New Zealand. The aim was to update and extend the original surveys conducted in 2001 and 2007 by tracking trends and investigating new issues for young people.

This report highlights the usefulness of enhanced surveillance to inform a response to recent increases in case numbers for infectious syphilis in New Zealand, but also notes the limitations of this surveillance.
